Gzip not working on nginx CentOS despite configuration to enable it
exact set-up (nothing more than this was done):
I installed centos 7 minimal
I logged in via putty
Then i input the following commands
yum update
yum clean all
yum install epel-release
yum install nginx … systemctl enable nginx
vi /etc/nginx/nginx.conf
user nginx;
worker_processes auto;
error_log /var/log/nginx/error.log;
pid /run/nginx.pid;
events {
worker_connections 1024;
}

Nginx doesn't show a directory index unless I have the non-gziped index.html when I can just...
NOTE: If it matters at all, my server's run by NGINX.
EDIT: even if I edit /etc/nginx/nginx.conf to have the line index index.html.gz, then it'll deliver the index page as a download-only file! …
