We had a custom post type in WordPress which unfortunately included an extra /feed/ link for every post.

i.e. for every www.example.com/post, the post included a feed pointing to www.example.com/post/feed/. This extra feed produced a 404.

We've since removed the extra feed so there should be no links to any 404s now.

Do I need to let Google Search Console know this?

For soft 404s, I could ask Google to validate the fix.

This does not seem to be an option for hard 404s.

  • Unfortunately Googlebot may try to crawl these URLs for a long time and report them in GSC and there is little you can do about that. That shouldn't hurt your site or your SEO though. Feb 10 at 10:42
