cpanel has an "rsync backup" function which allows you to point backups to a remote Linux system using rsync, over SSH.
However, some ssh backup hosts (notably, rsync.net), have restricted environments where you can only run certain UNIX commands over ssh - like this:
ssh user@rsync.net mv file file2
So in that example, I executed the mv
command over ssh - but not all commands are available.
When I point cpanels rsync backup feature to an rsync.net account, it fails - in addition to running the rsync
command, it is trying to do some housekeeping or status checking (perhaps with du
or df
or rotating snapshots with cp
or who knows ...
My question is: does anyone know what cpanel tries to run, on a remote host, over SSH, when you use the rsync backup feature ?
