I am new on vps server. Please consider me as beginner in vps. In past I am using shared cpanel hosting and I want to transfer my email backup to my new vps.

My current server is on digital ocean with Ubuntu 16.04.I installed Vestacp control panel on it.

My past shared hosting account was on bigrock with cpanel.Which is expried now.I only have a backup file with me.

I tried to place my backup email files in /home/admin/mail/website/email_acount/cur folder but it dosen’t work and start creating problem with incoming mails so I remove them.

Is there any way to place my backup email files to my new vps.I dont want to backup anything else. Please help me.

  • If you found the actual right mail folder on your new vps probably "It doesn't work and start creating problem with incoming mails" means permission issues. Did you created files as root? Did you run ls -la in the email folder to see who the actual right owner is? – Marco Jul 14 at 22:35
  • Thank you marco. your are right my mail folder is with root permission not with admin. I have added a screenshot above please see.Is there any solution for this. – Himanshu Jul 15 at 2:55

Shouldn't your mail file be in /home/admin/mail/email_acount/cur not in your /website directory?

If you put it in the website directory, depending on permissions, your mail files could be exposed to the public.

  • hello steve I added my directory structure above. Please take a look and help me. – Himanshu Jul 15 at 3:20
  • why is the owner not admin:admin? – Steve Jul 16 at 7:10
  • I think it is preconfigured in vestacp installation. – Himanshu Jul 17 at 2:41
  • have you tried changing it? – Steve Jul 17 at 7:09
  • No I haven't tried to change it can you tell me how to do that. – Himanshu Jul 18 at 4:04
