I was having some problems with a LAMP server running a wordpress website. The server would become unresponsive even via ssh. The average memory usage was 90% according to 'sar -r'. Now the average memory according to 'sar -r' is 11%.

This is probably enough to solve the problem of VM becoming fully unresponsive. But I was wondering if I also need to increase values in the php.ini, wp-config.php files or if the bigger RAM is good enough.

Right now the situation is:
max_input_vars = 1000 and I was thinking about increasing it to 3000 memory_limit = 128M and I was wondering if I have to increase it too now that I have more memory available

I also haven't set how much memory my wordpress can use yet through define(‘WP_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘XXXXXM’); and define(‘WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT’, ‘XXXM’); which values are good for a VM with 4GB?

My wordpress runs avada and thrive, W3 total cache and some other 23 plugins.

I'd appreciate very much some guidelines about these values for a VM with 4GB. It's easy to find tutorials on how to change these values guidelines for changes in memory settings after an upgrade in RAM is scarce.

Any other tips about memory management are more than welcome!
