I have completly remade a website 6 months ago. The pages of the old website still compare in the search results and when they are accessed they return 404. I can't remove these pages from the index. What I tried:
- changing 404 to 410
- removing the pages from the index with the tool provided by google (just a few of the many pages where removed. The others have been marked as expired and are still present in the google index)
- using the tool in the search console to ask for an indexing of the website (website was succesfully indexed, but old pages were not removed)

I do not know anymore what to do

  • At this point all you can do it wait. Removal is not immediate and takes time to get caught up. – John Conde Mar 17 at 21:29
