I have a website that has a different page for different cities. Each page has similar content, i.e. like “We buy gold ‘city’” or “We buy used cars ‘city’”. Most of my competitors follow a similar pattern but rank much higher than me. Their content is canned content that they all buy from a common vendor.

Several of my city specific pages rank relatively well (top 5) but my landing page doesn’t rank at all. After reading several posts it appears that I’m violating SEO rules.

I’m wondering how to correct this. Should I redirect my city specific pages to my landing page? If so I will take a hit on my position.

Should I use canonical instead even though they’re not identical pages just similar?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
