Take a look adat Google Webmaster Guidelines, you shouldn't hide anything. Google wouldn't hurt you (if it is a hided h1hidden <h1> tag) with penalties in normal -normally, but styled and hidden h1 loose<h1> tags lose a lot of SEO impact -, and h1an <h1> tag can have a huge onpage inpactimpact.
