Make your base page 100% static and hold all of the first page contents in your CDN. It will be served from the nearest location (assuming it is already in cache) to the Google page speed client. You can reduce your time to first byte only by shortening the DNS cache lookup (provided by your DNS provider) and by shortening your network path

requests/sec are a function of the number of requests made. If you have a high amount of client-side cached items that are requested once per session (or less frequently) then the number of actual requests can be quite low - which is preferred.
