comment Can't change HTTP Vary header from PHP
I do have mod_deflate activated on both servers. But only on the CentOS one I can add more values to it, not on the Ubuntu one. I'll try the env-var.

@w3d: I didn't explicitly set the Accept-Encoding part, so it must have been Apache itself, because I've set up mod_deflate.

comment Should I submit my RSS feed as Google Sitemap?
It's a shame that they don't support Content Negotiation though. So the URI has to refer to the type already.

comment Getting users to use RSS
Personally, I hate it when I get "updates" in my inbox. I like my mail to be mostly personal, so having another way to stay in touch with non-personal contacts is appreciated.

comment Strengths of various open-source PHP Content Management Systems?
I'd choose this for any mono-lingual site. It's super flexible, without being overly complex (unless you don't know XSLT, of course). You can build a site that does exactly what you want - no more, no less. Very helpful from a user's perspective - no distractions. If you want a head start, there are "ensembles", which are pre-built packages for certain purposes (blogs, ...).

comment How can you identify duplicate CSS rules?
@bybe: but it becomes a mess to maintain, if you just keep piling stuff on top of each other.

Only in a crude way. Problem here is that it doesn't compare whole blocks (selectors AND rules as a whole). Also can't cope with bigger re-arrangements or blocks.
