My name is Benjamin Dumke-von der Ehe. I am Stack Overflow Valued Associate #00007, which is just a confusing way of saying that I work as a developer for Stack Exchange.
I am @balpha on Twitter. My blog's "about" page explains the origin of my user name.
I am the creator of Unicornify, the service that gives you these lovable creatures:
I also created Lyfe, a small library adding yield-based generators to JavaScript, and Not a Real Question, a little game that's played with data from various Stack Exchange sites.
I sometimes have a strange sense of humor, but I also like to explain things I fix, break, care about, or come up with.

Letting search engines know that different links to identical pages stress different parts of the page This creates memories of bad "Hello Googler, I see you're searching for X" sites -- but yes, it's an nice workaround. Of course, I'd also love that Google knows the relevant part of the page, but the idea is certainly interesting. |

Best Modifier Key Combination for Web Shortcuts @Mikhail: I'm aware of that, but I don't agree with that logic -- after all, J is to the left of K. For me, if J is "down", then U has to be "up". But I suppose I'll get used to it :) |

Does a site's bounce rate influence Google rankings? @MikeHudson: meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/26964/… |

When is meta description still relevant? Are you asking about the Stack Exchange sites in particular, or generally? It probably depends on the actual site if Google can generate a meaningful description on its own. |

How should I structure my urls for both SEO and localization? Also, always give the user the choice, no matter what their headers say -- I often switch back to English when being offered the German version, either because the translation is so awful, or because it's easier to read in English (MSDN, for example -- all the code is in English, so having the text in German means more context switching) |
