comment Why can't I connect to a local website remotely?
Unless you have done so already, you need to configure your router or gateway to redirect the right port through. If you already did that, we need more info.

comment Website “theft” - what is the best way of dealing with these individuals?
Until we find an answer, I suggest you update your site as much as possible. I noticed that the lazy people who copy my websites tend to not update and within a few months are quite outdated.

comment mod_rewrite with .htaccess to make dynamic page search engine friendly
@user29044 - Just at \.htm before the $ in the rule. Also please remember to accept the answer if it solves your problem.

comment Can bots crawl through “checkbox” form elements which act as a filter for products?
@user21100 - Indeed and even after 8 years of building websites and 2 years working for Google, I still have no idea how so many URLs not linked from anywhere appear so often!

comment Setting up a VM testing server [MySQL, HTML, & PHP webstore] Testing for SQL correctness?
@TdotThomas - It is not. For most sites I use root relative links, so all links start with / but have no domain name. This makes working with rewrite rules simpler. Some of my older sites used purely relative links. For the rare cases I need a domain name, I have a PHP variable which is set based on the request address which is a static private IP on my local number. Locally I access it through a convenience domain, so say foo.com/ would be locally foo/. The only thing that I avoid completely is having the domain name in the database.

comment Why does Google index pages of my blog in seconds, while pages on the rest of the website take longer to get indexed
Is the blog, Wordpress? If yes, the same happens to me. It takes minutes to get a post indexed and roughly 2 to 4 days for an article on the main site even though there are more updates and interesting stuff on the site. I too would like to know how WP does that!

comment Website with same content but different tlds
The thing about ranking is that there are practically no absolute rules. Ranking and relevancy is established with a sum of factors which are each weighted differently. If all else being equal, one factor will make a difference but all else are rarely equal.

comment Adsense Units of “Forbes” Magazine:: Frozen ADSENSE TERMS?
We do live in a corrupt world, but IMO this is not an example of one. Custom deals are reserved for larger sites because they cost more to make and require more revenue to be profitable. If I make blue widgets and sell them to everyone but one customer asks for a red one, I probably can't. If a customer asks for 10000 red ones, then I'll probably order some red pigment and fill the lines with it.

comment How can I spellcheck entire website?
Just note that these programs have limited ability to check dynamic websites which they cannot fully preview. For static ones though, this is the easiest way to go.

comment Website images stop loading
Look at the path of one of those images, it is simply not there: bdgregg.com/images/rim/TSW%20Wheels/120620v4fxwf7kjpeg - Notice there is no extension... you probably made a search-and-replace error or forgot to move some files.

comment Is it necessary to browser QA different versions of non-IE Browsers?
For most browsers, there is a separate version for the application and the rendering engine. With very minor releases, the application version changes but the rendering engine may not. In general though, both are changed as each release. On Chrome we used to synchronize with WebKit daily, so each time a new release was published, you get a new Webkit version too.

comment Web gallery system
@Sergerick - If even a small image has value, then you must put a watermark to protect it. This is normal and I do so that myself. Despite this, some photos with watermarked get used illegally but at least people know where they come from.

comment My webpage works using HTTP, but not using www
This makes no sense at all. http is a protocol and www is a common subdomain name.

comment SEO duplicate content
@GKhan14 - Yes, give it your own spin. I have a news site too and that is exactly what I do with incoming press releases. Look at Gizmodo too, they always have their own take on the news and below there is a button that says Show Full Press Release.

comment Is it still recommended to only use relative font-size for accessibility?
While I have no reference to back this up, I think using relative font-size is an ideal that leads to considerably more headaches than it is worth. Whenever there is graphics or video on the same page, it just does not hold up.

comment Can I redirect the HTTP request towards an old folder to the homepage using .htaccess file?
Normally you redirect the page and resources are requested for the new page, in this case your home page. Are you saying there are direct links to resources too?

comment Showing index.htm and index.php both
It works that way here on my own server. Would this be on shared hosting? There is most likely a default .htaccess file somewhere else and settings are inherited. Look at parent directories if they are accessible to you. On some service provides, you have a control panel interface which lets you change similar settings.

comment Visitors are coming on the site but are not submitting questions for my Q&A site
The combo box to select a star to ask to does not work. The drop down appears but disappears in a fraction of a second. There is no time to choose the star. Actually, using the keyboard to select works but most people use the mouse.
