I'm a web developer from the UK. PHP, HTML5, CSS3 and jQuery-ed javascript are my specialties, thought I also dabble in Python, Bash scripting and SQL when needed.

comment When webservers send a page, why don't they send all required CSS, JS, and images without being asked?
No one has mentioned HTTP 2s server push, this does exactly what you suggest.

Span doesn't carry any meaning, Google will not care about this.

Surely you want to provide a version of users without JS enabled anyway? If impossible, then yeah, I'd drop all CSS.

No, but CSS is notable by its absence in google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35769 and google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35291 . External CSS is downloaded, as Matt Cutts mentions that hiding text via CSS is detected, but I am pretty sure it doesn't affect ranking in any other way. (So, unsourced, but I've seen no evidence to suggest otherwise)

That's right. Not any more. It's all about h1, h2, h3 tags for importance now.

comment Is there any reason for me not to use the “wav” format for html5 audio crossbrowser compatibility?
Yep, WAV files are uncompressed so are huge. I wouldn't recommend using them on the web.
