I'm an independent software engineer with a particular interest in web technologies (esp. JavaScript). I also do lots of work in C#, Java, and several other languages.
On occasion, I write up snippets of nifty tricks or techniques in my anemic little blog.
I've been doing this professionally for over 20 years, goofing with computers for 10 years before that, but I hope I'm not this guy.
I'm an independent contractor. If you have a bit of work you need done, and done properly, give me a shout at tj@crowdersoftware.com. Whether it's a couple of hours of sorting out a script, or a couple of months designing and implementing a new application or system for you, I can usually work you into my existing commitments as long as you're willing to share my time with others. (I don't currently have any exclusive availability.) My rates are reasonable, and of course, you have a good idea what you're getting if you browse the more than 4,000 answers I've provided on Stack Overflow.. :-)
I've had issues with the Stack Exchange management's curation of the network (particularly Stack Overflow, where I've been most active), including this idiocy and this, as well as everyday unreasoning obstinance — which have caused me to periodically curtail my contribution. I'm hopeful the change in management earlier this year will improve things.

Alternative to Pingdom website monitoring service Even so, figure you consume 5 SMS messages per event, that's still 40 events worth on signup. Even if you had an outage every month, that's more than three years' worth. And an unplanned outage every month seems...too high. (For planned outages you use the API to pause monitoring.) |

Any reason a site has 2 links to favicon? Good link. According to the link, just the first one would work. (Perhaps they explicitly want to send compatible browsers the first one, and perhaps there is no /favIcon.ico at all...) |

Any reason a site has 2 links to favicon? Also useful: msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537656(v=vs.85).aspx |

Any reason a site has 2 links to favicon? I'm not seeing the reason for the close-votes. Perhaps the phrasing isn't perfect, but it's a reasonable question: Is there a good reason why you would specify the icon twice in these two slightly-different ways? |

Make all subdomains load the same page, how is it called/done? There is, but it's more of a web server and DNS configuration thing than a programming thing. Voting to move to serverfault.com. |

Is it okay to use persian utf-8 characters in our urls? Expect this to change, though; ICANN's working hard on Internationalized Domain Names, which by their nature would require an update to the rules for URIs. |

How can I show multiple ad networks on my site? That said, Google DFP seems to do exactly that, so... |

How can I show multiple ad networks on my site? Be careful doing ad rotation with AdSense. See the program policies, specifically: "Competitive Ads and Services: ...publishers may not display Google ads or search boxes on websites that also contain other ads or services formatted to use the same layout and colours as the Google ads or search boxes on that site..." (my emphasis on "same layout"). To me this means: If you have a banner area and rotate AdSense and other ads in it, you may be banned. And it's hard to get back in. |
