comment Google not following “canonical” directive for a certain type of URLs
Awesome! Glad it solved your problem. I wonder if Google should amend their recommendation to say "just use absolute links, dudes." :-)

comment I want to run a URL shortener for my own usage, what do I need to do?
How about disadvantages? tr.im was quite good, with metrics and flexibility, and went out of business. *.ly shorteners are good, but depend on the goodwill of the Libyan government. External sites may share or sell link data with 3rd parties. By running my own, I avoid these pitfalls. Do those issues help you understand where I'm coming from?

Well, your answer to the problem is that Google is not working as expected. If you want to see if it might make a difference, you'll have to test it. :-|

Are there others you evaluated? Do you use it in concert with Twitter or WordPress or other tools? Pluses, minuses? Nice find, but more detail about why you like it would be great. Thanks!

And have you tested using absolutely links for any posts? I'd say test that.

comment Considerations of the HTTP Content-MD5 Header
That AWS failure case is really insidious. It's a few years old, but really a fascinating example of a failure mode I would never have thought of. Very interesting one to look out for when using storage of data remotely. I wonder about some of the NoSQL solutions and how they handle such issues.
