comment Page appears indexed in Google but not findable for any search terms?
@Jeff I was assuming Dan was correct. You're right. It appears that no one has, as far as I can tell, experienced increased page rank from site maps and indeed that's all Google claims it will do.

This is another good reason to have a site map thus answering webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/4803/the-sitemap-paradox

comment Can I expect browsers to cache static content served over SSL encryption?
Thanks. It seems to say that FF3+ and IE will do it if that header is set. Earlier versions of FF only cache for the browser's session (in-memory). What about Opera, Safari, Konqueror, and Chrome?

comment Allowing customers to edit static website via WYSIWYG
Looks very cool. I'm a bit concerned that since you have to mark editable areas with the class cushycms it makes it pretty obvious that you're using CushyCMS and that you have opened FTP access to them. Can you define your own class name?

comment Is it a bad practice to use self-signed SSL certificates?
I have not used them myself so I don't really know. I was planning on trying one out for exactly the same reason you want to. They are only available for low level encryption and have less support among browsers and OSs. The one I linked to is now accepted in win7.
