+1 this. @user32160 Also since your using Maxcdn, they have a robots.txt feature to block content. In your case you do not want that enabled.

comment Website “theft” - what is the best way of dealing with these individuals?
Great. If you ever wanted to take it further then that you could hire a law firm which specialized in IP. Just search for ip lawyers.

comment DNS servers not set properly? Site failing to load by hostname, though loads fine by IP
@Nick no kidding but 1 hour down is a lot of time. And it happened 3 times in one year. I have nothing against the company and their free services are great. But they are still fairly new on the DNS scene (maybe 4 years). Even their CEO Mr Prince thought it was unexceptional downtime. Free service is that, you get what you pay for. I just wanted to put it out there so people can make their own decisions.

comment Is it legal for a developer to claim ownership of a clients' analytics data?
Hostage sounds so dramatic. Sounds like the previous developers did not get paid. Tell your client to pay his outstanding invoice.

comment Is having a 'home' navigation item on the home page negative to your sites SEO?
I feel this question should be closed as it has no real answer. (1) it depends on the search engine. (2) the search engine's ever changing unknown algorithms. (3) the question just fosters many opinions. Like mine: SEO people often provide opinions based on no real evidence or science. We developers link to to the home page for the user, & that is all. Content > SEO. A large percentage of people trying to do SEO get paranoid or read baseless articles with no evidence & get all revved up for nothing. Perhaps this SEO had nothing left to input on this week & needs to meet the monthly quota.

comment Payment provider that works in South Africa
@user1970 2checkout has been around in business for a really long time, I used them ages ago and had no complaints. I would definitely try them again if I needed an international payment gateway.

comment SEOs: mobile version using AJAX: how to be properly read by crawlers?
@OlivierPons Yes that's right, don't use m dot. In the video Matt suggested m dot which is fine. Mine is also a suggestion. Neither is a wrong way to go. I'd still choose the non m dot separation for mobile. Also notice only one time Mr. Cutts talks about duplicate content in the video & says something like 'You shouldn't have duplicate content issues but if you do contact us'. My suggestion is to make a website that does not need ANY user agent sniffing & redirection nonsense. Here's a perfect example of a site which works on any modern device & browser: css-tricks.com

comment robots.txt not updated
+1 for great info. To those who have a template based site design and not static html pages, they should take care they do not deindex their entire site by accident. So some programming to select pages my be required going this route. Also for popular CMS like wordpress and drupal for example, there exists plugins/extensions to achieve what GDav suggested as well.

comment How important is responsive web design?
How Important? Zero to little importance for most sites. For an App or tool more so (1) Responsive vs Adaptive? Varies from person to person and project to project. In short no one method is better and usage also depends on the audience of the site. (2) Affects SEO? No. (3) Main issues? You will have to test more, fix more bugs, and code more, some things will not work when having a reduced width and some things will violoate TOS (adsense) if you remove or change them. Here's 10 important features for web apps in this video which IMHO apply to most sites anyways vimeo.com/10510576

They don't seem to have a default document page (index.html) setup. The only thing I could find was these odd 404 pages: ime.nu/whatever and here's a pagetest: webpagetest.org/result/120925_GK_YR1

(1) Do you know a programming language? (2) What you've outlined above is a template engine/language so do you know which one you've described? (3) Having to know what FOR EACH (listOfArticles) SORT mostRecent CATEGORY news is beforehand is not equally painful?

comment How do I make sure the web developer I hire will not steal my idea?
It could also scare off good developers who would never work under conditions that could restrict developing stuff on their own that are grey area or potentially could be mis-construded into being competitive. I may not have the legal power ($) to defend my little side project from a corporation who believes it classifies it as competitive even if in actuality it is not

comment SEO: Make hashtag links look static
You say you display all your content vertically. Does this mean all these sections, including the entire blog are all on one big html page? Or are you using javascript to being the content into the page when they click those <li> in your navigation?

comment Forbid content in google results summary
@YardenST It has nothing to do with tricking googlebot. It has to do with keeping the page the same for every page load or loading stuff to provide a speed improvement. The phone number changes on the fly so it should be requested by the user on a click. Same as ads are done with javascript so bots do not follow them, etc. This is not cloaking or tricking.

@YardenST I will have to disagree with you 100%. There is no difference in content to the googlebot. Its the same for everyone.
