I'm passionate about coding and researching the history of technology as well as exploring where technology is leading.

I used to work in flight simulation doing both hardware implementation (electrical design, wiring), web development (design, development, webmaster), as well as software development (desktop development in C#).

I'm a big fan of both using and contributing to Open source projects.

I am the creator of the pypreprocessor library that can be found on PYPI as well as Google code.

comment Why would I choose UTF-8 over ISO 8859-1 as the content encoding for my site?
@DisgruntledGoat I thought \n was specific to *nix platforms whereas \r is specific to Windows. Don't you need a combination of the two to make the code platform independent?

Is the LS (line separator) character also supported in HTML or do I still have to use the classic \r\n kludge?

comment Can you recommend ways to manage code deployment to a Linux based web server?
Almost forgot... +1 Mercurial for incremental deployments is definitely the way to go.

Also, check out webmasters.stackexchange.com/questions/262/… if you decide to use mercurial to deploy.

comment How can I make my flash website more search engine friendly?
-1 for 'cloaking'. See youtube.com/watch?v=kFOgZjbX9NU&feature=player_embedded. Cloaking is bad mmmkay. Note: if you don't know who Matt Cutts is, google him.

comment How do I ensure that my content is sent via gzip in Apache?
I thought Deflate had support issues with Internet Explorer.

comment How do you determine the monetary value of an established domain / website?
I'm pretty sure the typical (nothing special) standard price for a squatted domain is between $250-$750.

I don't usually like to rely heavily on an article for an answer but this one is too in-depth to briefly summarize. It's definitely a good read.

+1 for including everything, even the 'fast load time'.

comment Which DNS registrars will hide my WHOIS information?
I think you're getting mixing up registrar (Verisign, etc) with DNS Hosting (GoDaddy, etc).

Really? That's it? TinyMCE and CKEditor? I thought there'd be more.

@Mark Note, I'm using 5.0.375.99. I'm not sure if it makes a difference now or in the future though.

+1 nice answer. I knew about a couple of these but I failed to notice the wiki article article about it. Good source...

As an aside. Most of the market share data is collected from different analytics services. Personally I have used stat counter and google analytics. If you wanted really accurate numbers you'd have to include google analytics (since they are the most widely used analytics service). Unfortunately, Google doesn't share their global aggregate analytics data.

comment Where can I safetly search domain whois without worrying about the search engine parking on the domain immediately after the search?
+1 Thanks for the answer. Although I haven't had this happen to me personally I've heard about it on multiple places on the net. It's nice to hear an answer from someone who has personally experienced this practice. Personally, I use Verisign whois to prevent this but I can't point to a specific reason why other than the fact that they are the top level .net and .com registrar.
