comment Analysing Bounce Rate and Time on Page
Mainstream bots behave predictably and can be filtered. Unfortunately, there are a surprising number of bad bots, link analysis and vulnerbility scouting programs out there and many of them don't play nice. For example, I recently had one hit a single page 1000's of times. It looked like IE6 but it was obviously being automated and probably spoofed.

Since most of this behavior was coming from sites in certain countries in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia and since I'm not targeting those markets at all I filtered all of this traffic out. I also filter out certain US based proxies that some of them use to evade such filtering. Of course, that's a moving target so I have to watch for weird activity spikes as well that indicate automated link spamming attempts or other such things.

@joshuahedlund - I've found it less than optimal in this regard, especially when dealing with sources that hide or spoof their referrer information.

My response was a little long for a comment so I edited my answer.

Google indexes porn quite well. It's a common mistake to think that having adult content alone is a problem. The problem is that so many webmasters in that industry use blackhat techniques to rank their sites.

I check Google itself by using site:mydomainname.com to show the indexed pages. I usually do this via the SEOQuake toolbar in Firefox. You can also use Google Webmaster Tools for some additional information if you want it.

Along the same lines, the Growmap Anti-spam Plugin for WordPress uses a number of methods that thwart automated spam very well plus it degrades well. You might want to look it up and see if you can use it or borrow ideas from it.

comment Internal links for a website
Agree. The page rank sculpting technique of using nofollow on internal links stopped working somewhere around 2007-2008 but it's still given out as SEO advice by some and used by a lot of WordPress themes.

comment How to get out of google penalty for spammy links linking to my site?
As always, I recommend testing things out for yourself as I mentioned above. I've ran tests on this and discussed this issue with people I trust. At first and like you, I was telling them that incoming links won't get a site algorithmically penalized. But, when I started investigating and testing it, sadly, I found that this wasn't true anymore.

comment Can .gov (or similar official) websites be used for partisanship?
This seems like a question for a lawyer who knows the ends and outs of election laws on the federal and state level. Speaking from personal observations, incumbants often use government paid newsletters, websites and even bus tours to subtly promote their reelection efforts but it can raise ethical questions from the press and opponents.

comment Responsive website VS mobile website
Some fluid designs do limit width but a lot don't. It's something that gets overlooked and causes ugly results on some reasonably common monitor setups. Pinch-zoom is a big thing for tablet users and it not working right one of the most common UX complaints about sites I hear from my wife who's a big tablet and smartphone user.

comment Can I legally use a competitor's business name on my site to compare products?
It's either lawyer time or roll over time. It's a lot cheaper to roll over than to use a lawyer, even if you ultimately prevail.

comment How can I prevent users from creating multiple accounts?
True, even if they do create a second account the site owner gets paid, twice. This won't work in every situation but it's a great way to cut down on spammers and trolls if you can do it.

comment Is link building still a factor for getting rank in Google?
It's a matter of degree of the relevance of the stuffing. The previous technique wasn't to stuff the same keyword combos over and over again as in circa 1999 stuffing but to stuff with semantically relevant phrases. For example, taking everything a Adwords keyword search listing and putting it in a post. Panda blunted this somewhat. This is a part of how they're judging content quality now although they're happy to misdirect people into thinking they have a "I'll be back" level of AI.

comment Is link building still a factor for getting rank in Google?
My point was that it became more refined and widespread with the Panda update. Previously, some types of keyword stuffing, particularly related term stuffing, worked and was a common tactic used by certain pharma product spammers and others. But that doesn't work as well now.

comment What happens if I let my domain expire?
I often buy expiring domains like this. They typically start at $15 and go up from there depending on several factors. I'm nice though and will return a domain at my cost to the former owner. Most people aren't this nice though. Bottom line, if you want to keep the domain, you have to renew it.

comment I want to test major changes on my website without hurting SEO
@wxiiir - subdomains are a good way to go if you can't invest in multiple server environments right now. Unless you have really poor hosting they're quick and easy to create and free. Even using a subfolder is better than potentially wrecking your entire site.

comment PPC advertising publishing options on on an Ajax/Dynamic site?
It's really based a lot on the niche and the advertiser. I've had some do OK and others haven't done that well at all.
