Webmasters Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for pro webmasters. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I log in as my "page" and then go to https://www.facebook.com/insights/

I click "Insights for your website", and a dialog box pops up saying this:

Add a meta tag to your webpage Gain access to insights for your website by adding an fb:admins or fb:app_id meta tag to your root webpage, linking it to your personal account or an application.

and it provides a meta tag in this format, with a 15-digit content attribute value:

<meta property="fb:admins" content="123456789012345" />

I copy and paste that inside my <head></head> tags, enter my web address into the dialog box I just described and submit it, and get this error:

Bad request No admin data found at root webpage http://example.com/. Insights requires admin data at this root webpage for the specified URL example.com

(Of course, I used my real web address, not "example.com")

I found facebook's site debugging tool here. And when I run my url through it, it gives me this error:

Errors that must be fixed Object Invalid Value Object at URL 'http://example.com/' of type 'website' is invalid because the given value '123456789012345' for property 'fb:admins' could not be parsed as type 'fbid'.

After that, I tried changing fb:admins to fb:app_id in the meta tag and that did not fix the problem either.

So, why is facebook telling me to use that code if it's not the right code?
