I've just finished a social network, and went for a shared hosting... (because that's what I can afford for now).

I used Openfire(for XMPP private messages) and Imagick (for image resizing), but I found that I can't install them on a shared hosting. So I find myself with 2 options:

  1. Go for a dedicated server (which I can't afford)
  2. Use ajax for private messages (with less performance)... and re-size images using plain PHP...

I'm very confused not knowing what to do at this stage.

Do you think there is any other option??

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "Questions asking us to recommend a tool, library or favorite off-site resource are off-topic for Pro Webmasters as they tend to attract opinionated answers and spam." – dan

You could use a CDN or image sharing site to both re-size and host the images for you. This site (Pro Webmasters) for example uses the later (view the source code on a post with a screenshot). – dan Nov 22 '13 at 23:57
