Webmasters Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for pro webmasters. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a site on server A which I am about to move to server B. The transfer is all done apart from the DNS.

I now want to preview my site before I change DNS, but when I try all formatting is gone. I use the simple preview option with an URL to access the site on server B.

This is a Joomla site, and I wonder if there is any special considerations to make or known problems when previewing a joomla site in Plesk?

I also want to mention that i have to append 'index.php' to see the site.

I am not sure wheter this is a Joomla or a Plesk problem.

index.php is created by Joomla, enable SEF URLS and rename htaccess to enable it. –  bybe Sep 5 '13 at 9:07

Of course, thanks. Do you know how to change SEF setting in database, since i cant log in to administrator panel now? –  Håkan Bylund Sep 5 '13 at 9:38

I could be wrong but I believe this option can be found in the configuration file within the root of your setup. But to be honest if you migrated one from server to another, the config file / DB should remain untouched meaning the only thing you need to do is ensure that the htaccess is working. –  bybe Sep 5 '13 at 9:46

SEF enabled and htaccess renamed, but all the formatting on the site is still missing. –  Håkan Bylund Sep 5 '13 at 10:34

Use the developer tools (you can usually show the tools by pressing the F12-key) to check why the css-files aren't loaded (especially the "network"-tab should give hints on what's wrong). –  vstm Sep 5 '13 at 11:14
