For example for a software project. Documentation differs for the stable (1.0) and for the testing (2.0) version.

Is there some extension or other way to easily fork a mediawiki articles? So users can click "1.0" and get documentation for "1.0" or click "2.0" and get the version of the page for "2.0" users.

Doesn't MediaWiki automatically keep a full revision history of the page and allow you to click back to any previous version? Couldn't you just link to a specific version of the page? –  Stephen Ostermiller Aug 7 '13 at 15:08
