Webmasters Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for pro webmasters. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've noticed that a lot of the time, content is taken from the United States Kotaku and then copy and pasted to other regions Kotaku like Australia.

How are they able to do this when Google looks down on duplicate content, or is their size too great for it to have any impact whatsoever?

For example.

This doesn't fall under "site you control". Please read the faq. – John Conde Mar 20 at 23:57
There is a difference between syndicated content and duplicate content. Google does not penalize syndicated content (such as news wire services or RSS feeds). What it does penalize is when duplicate content appears within a single site, making it appear that the webmaster is trying to inflate their page count without producing new/unique content. Likewise, Google also penalizes sites for only reproducing content from other sites, especially when it's done in an illegal/unethical manner, as many spam blogs do. Kotaku AU and Kotaku US are not identical sites. – Lèse majesté Mar 21 at 0:04
