Webmasters Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for pro webmasters. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I had a domain that was performing quite well. However, during a one month instance (last September), the domain was down, throwing a ton of errors. We cleaned up all unwanted URL's with 410 (which still appear as errors). Looking in Google's Webmaster Tools, the number of errors has slowly declined.

I let the domain remain as is for a couple of more months with a real lack of traffic, waiting for Google to catch up. However, last week, I created a new domain, and just 301ed all traffic to the new domain.

Now the new domain is getting a significant amount of traffic.

I wonder if it was just by chance that when I did the fwd that the fixed errors passed some Google threshold to start showing more SEO results, or that creating the new domain affected this in some way, and if so, how?

I realize that the new domain will not have any of the errors the previous one was having (as those errored URLs don't exist on the new domain). I was expecting an increase in traffic in about 2-3 weeks, but this was really quick.

Interested to hear some feedback.

Thanks.
