I see quite a few sites have reasonably prominent links to their site maps.

Does anyone ever actually use them?? I certainly have never had a need / reason to specifically go to a sitemap.

Me neither. But Google loves them. – j0k Jul 4 '12 at 13:55

Google does love HTML sitemaps along with XML. Build'em if you got the time. They'll eat up the <a> links more than the XML's – Anagio Jul 4 '12 at 14:06

We are looking for reasonably definitive answers. As it's phrased you could get a number of answers like "I do" and "I don't". All that proves is that you've found people who do and don't. – paulmorriss Jul 4 '12 at 14:08
On occasion I've used sitemaps, where a website's navigation and search functions have been so terrible I still haven't been able to find a section I know exists. True story. – Anonymous Jul 4 '12 at 14:19
