Webmasters Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for pro webmasters. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I was confused with sell side platforms (eg. Admeld) and self-serve platforms (eg. AdReady) as both are serving services to publishers.

I would like to know the differences in order to get the answer of "which platform is suitable for a medium size website publisher, and why?"

Isn't the difference just who does the work? With the SSP you load and maintain it end-to-end. With the Self Serve your customers load it and you simply approve their ads for display, or turn on auto approve which would scare the socks off of every legal department I've ever spoken with... – Joshua Drake Apr 3 '12 at 14:33
