we have a joomla based website. the admins did not pay attention, and site has been spammed with thousands of spam commments.

is there a way to automatically hide/remove those which have "links" in them?

This question requires a clarification. Joomla itself does not allow "comments". So you are certainly using a third party extension. So you'd better find out which one it is and rephrase your question accordingly.
